Dear brother assalaam alaikum warahmatullah. Thank you for your approval. I am first of all sending my sincerely heartfelt and grievance for the demise of our maalim Ibrahim Sheikh Noor Haji who accepted his God's calling on friday the 29 in nairobi after along battle with kidney complex and other complications. May the Almighty Allah rest his soul in eternal peace(Firdousa) Ameen.Maalim Ibrahim was the famous duksi teacher at Habaswein in the early 70's. I was one of his students. After our sheikh Dubow(may Allah rest his soul in Firdousa) was the Habaswein Primary Quran teacher and he passing to his lord, he called maalim Ibrahim at his bed to go and teach the Quran at the Habaswein Primary, that was somewhere at the begginning of 1974. During the big eclipse of the sun in october in 1973 maalim Ibrahim Sheikh Noor was a maalim duksi in Habaswein at Haji Garyare's house (may allah rest his soul in Firdousa). Haji Garyare was so kind that he made the duksi a waqf (Allah's pleasure and endorment). A close to one hundred students of the hufadh were there, including Mohammed Arab Hussein who used to be our prefect together with the late Yussuf Abdikadir (may allah rest his soul in Firdousa). The maalim was religious to the last, a very strict shaffiyaat fellow who would not agree with us to view the cinemas which was occassionally transmitted ontop of a Ministry for Information landrover authorised for the extreme regions by the Kenyatta era. The maalim would hold a long shabieex cut from a stem of dharqa, and would fiercely point it's edge at one of us in a dengarous gravely eyes and say "aadhaa la aadhaa" and " aadhaa la dhagaheed", a term everyone of us would interpret it as very dangerous situation. When you do mistakes he tells you "isku daff" or "isku duub" which means you should put off your shirt and cover it with your eyes. And then the very interesting scene beggins , ofcourse the disciplinning by the cane. By God without that disciplinning no one can learn a xarf in the Quran. It was a very lovely. May the almighty Allah rest his soul in etearnal peace of Jannatul Firdousa , he together with our beloved Sheikh Dubow and the rest of those who carried the bunner of the deen ameeeen. |
